U.S. News & World Report ranked Northwest Nazarene University as one of the top universities in the West in its 2015 Best Colleges ranking that was released in September. NNU is listed number 43 of 84 in the Best Regional Universities: West category.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on peer assessment, retention and graduation rates, average class size, student-to-faculty ratio, faculty resources, financial resources and the ACT/SAT and high school rankings of incoming freshmen.

A total of 620 universities and colleges throughout the U.S. are ranked against their peers in the Regional University category that is divided into four geographic regions. This category contains master’s-level institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs with few doctoral programs.
In addition to ranking again with U.S. News, NNU continues on Princeton Review’s Best Regional Colleges: West list and has also been recognized by Colleges of Distinction, Christian Universities Online and BestColleges.com. NNU’s elementary and secondary undergraduate teacher education programs were also recently ranked by the National Council on Teacher Quality.
On CollegesofDistinction.com, a website dedicated to honoring schools nationwide for their excellence in student-focused higher education, NNU is named as a 2014-15 Christian College of Distinction. Colleges and universities are nominated for participation in Colleges of Distinction through high school counselors’ recommendations as well as quantitative research. They are assessed using the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Communities and Successful Outcomes. NNU was found to excel in all four distinctions.
NNU has also been ranked on Christian Universities Online’s "50 Most Affordable Christian College in the U.S." and "50 Best Christian Colleges in the U.S. 2014" lists. Christian Universities Online bases its rankings on accreditation and "highest degree of personal attention (student-to-faculty ratio), selectivity (acceptance rate), financial assistance (% receiving financial aid), and student satisfaction (retention and graduation rates)."

BestColleges.com recently ranked NNU number eight on its "50 Best Colleges for Older Students" list. They said, "...this university offers a wide-range of programs and services for continuing and mature students. Courses are taught with the understanding that adult minds have had time to grow and mature, and they learn differently than those in their late teens." BestColleges.com limited their ranking to schools that have a "nontraditional student body of 25% or higher, that provide a high quality education, quantitatively speaking" among other criteria.
The National Council on Teacher Quality assesses 2,400 teacher prep programs nationwide and ranks them based on evaluations of selection, content preparation, and practice teaching. NNU’s undergraduate elementary education with social studies endorsement program ranked number 40 of 412 programs. NNU’s Bachelor of Science in secondary education with mathematics teaching area emphasis ranked number 41 of 430 programs.
