Last Updated 24 April, 2018

Dr. Paula Kellerer, Superintendent of the Nampa School District, has been named this year’s L.E. Wesche Outstanding Educator by Northwest Nazarene University. The award will be presented at a private reception on Thursday, April 26.

"The award committee unanimously named Dr. Paula Kellerer as the 2018 recipient of the Outstanding Educator Award,” said Dr. LoriAnn Sanchez, Chair of the Department of Undergraduate Education. “Dr. Kellerer is the epitome of excellence in education and leadership. Her experience and contributions in the field of education are extensive, ranging from classroom teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, chairperson of several state-level education committees, and dean of educator preparation programs at NNU."

Dr. Kellerer received her Ph.D. and Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from University of Idaho, her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Boise State University, and her B.A. in Mathematics Education from NNU. Following her positions as a classroom teacher and principal, she was assistant superintendent for the Nampa School District from 2004 to 2010. She also served as department chair and dean at Northwest Nazarene University from 2010 to 2017, with her most recent position being dean of the College of Adult and Graduate Studies.

In 2017, she was selected to lead the Nampa School District. Dr. Kellerer now oversees administration and supervision of the district’s instructional programs and services, with an emphasis on collaboration, innovation and choice. “As Superintendent of Nampa School District, Dr. Kellerer makes a positive impact on thousands of children, parents and community members, and we look forward to the future as her leadership continues to positively impact education in our community for years to come,” added Dr. Sanchez.

This award is named in honor of Dr. Lilburn Wesche, NNU faculty emeritus, who graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in 1951. During his 30-year career at NNU, he was a professor, head of the education department, director of teacher education, director of graduate studies, interim academic dean and chair of the division of professional studies. Award recipients are current professionals who make a positive impact in the field of education that extends beyond the classroom.

The L.E. Wesche award recipient is nominated and selected by an advisory council composed of current and emeriti NNU education department faculty. The committee considers the candidates’ positive impact on the field of education extending beyond the classroom or office, how they have been a catalyst for change, their representation of the NNU ideals of scholarship in a Christian context, and their quality leadership and service to the profession.
