U.S. News & World Report named Northwest Nazarene University one of the top universities in the West in its 2016 Best Colleges ranking that was released on September 9. NNU is listed number 61 of 87 in the top tier of the Best Regional Universities: West category.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on peer assessment, retention and graduation rates, average class size, student-to-faculty ratio, faculty resources, financial resources and the ACT/SAT and high school rankings of incoming freshmen.

In addition to ranking again with U.S. News, NNU was again named one of the best colleges in the West according to The Princeton Review. The well-known education services company lists NNU among its "Best in the West" recommended schools in its "2016 Best Colleges: Region by Region" website feature that posted on August 3, 2015. Only 125 colleges in fifteen Western states made The Princeton Review's "Best in the West" list for 2016.

On CollegesofDistinction.com, a website dedicated to honoring schools nationwide for their excellence in student-focused higher education, NNU is named as a 2015-16 College of Distinction. NNU was also selected again this year in the additional categories of “Idaho College of Distinction” and “Christian College of Distinction.”

Colleges and universities are nominated for participation in Colleges of Distinction through high school counselors' recommendations as well as quantitative research. They are assessed using the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Communities and Successful Outcomes. NNU was found to excel in all four distinctions.

Northwest Nazarene University President Joel Pearsall commented, “I'm pleased that NNU has again been recognized by these prestigious national ranking organizations for providing an outstanding education. National rankings like The Princeton Review and U.S. News and World Report provide an external stamp of approval on an education we at NNU take great pride in providing.”
