Campus to host world-class artist for Music Residency Week

Last Updated 25 March, 2019

On April 8 – 14, Northwest Nazarene University and the NNU Department of Music will host Grammy Award-winning baritone, Daniel Belcher, as the artist in residence on campus. There will be professional music instruction, classroom lectures and performances held throughout the week.

Highlights of the week’s schedule include:

Wednesday, April 10

Vocal Master Class with Belcher from 7 – 9 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium, Emerson Administration Building. This event is open to the public to attend.

Thursday, April 11

Recital by Belcher and NNU faculty member, Judy Marlett at 7:30 p.m. in the Brandt Center Swayne Auditorium, free. The concert will feature contemporary music written in the last 20 years, including a piece written for Belcher.

Sunday, April 14

Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” at 3:00 p.m. in the Brandt Center Swayne Auditorium, free. Concert will feature soloist Daniel Belcher singing the role of Elijah, along with a combined choir comprised of NNU students, alumni, College Church of the Nazarene vocalists and Eaglesong members. Philip Miller will be conducting with an orchestra of NNU students and Boise Philharmonic musicians.

Belcher brings an outstanding level of music expertise to NNU’s campus. He possesses a 50-role repertoire, 2010 Grammy Award and performances in many of the world’s music capitals. London’s The Guardian described him as “possessing the kind of powerhouse stuff that indicates a star in the making.” A graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, many of his roles play to his colorful voice and natural comedic timing—gifts that will translate into a highly polished, yet enjoyable master class.
