A note from the performer: When I was a freshman at NNU, there came a point in my first quarter that I really started  focusing on practicing.  With the exception of a few lessons with an aunt one summer when I was 16 years old, I had not had piano lessons since the end of 7th grade, so my knowledge of the concert literature was pretty limited.  In my mind, the last movement of the Moonlight Sonata was a work of significant challenge.  I mentioned to Dr. Hughes, my piano teacher, that I had hoped to someday learn that movement and he replied in a way that gave me encouragement to try and learn the piece.  When his response was positive, I sensed that he must have thought I could learn it or else he would not have replied the way he did.  When I realized I could play the piece, I began to wonder what else I could play and it was like a door opened for me.  My time at NNU was significant in my musical development.
